Description
Botanical Origin and Essence of Cedarwood Oil
doTERRA Cedarwood essential oil (Juniperus virginiana) is extracted by steam distillation from the wood of the red cedar, a tree native to North America. This majestic tree, known for its resilience and longevity, has been valued for centuries for its aromatic properties and durable wood. The careful distillation process ensures the preservation of its active components, offering an oil of the highest quality with its intrinsic characteristics intact.
Cedarwood, historically used in construction, furniture making, and as a natural insect repellent, has a deep connection to the earth. Its distinctive aroma has been appreciated in various cultures for its ability to evoke feelings of stability, protection, and connection to nature. This legacy is in every drop of the essential oil, which concentrates the pure essence of this noble tree.
Main Chemical Composition and Its Effects
The richness of Cedarwood oil lies in its complex chemical composition, dominated by sesquiterpenes. Among them, α-himachalene, β-himachalene, and cedrol are the most prominent components, which significantly contribute to its aromatic profile and its potential therapeutic effects. Cedrol, in particular, is a sesquiterpene alcohol known for its relaxing and calming properties.
These compounds act synergistically, which may influence the nervous system to promote a state of tranquility and balance. Research suggests that cedrol could interact with certain receptors in the brain, facilitating a sense of peace and reducing environmental stress. This molecular interaction is what underlies Cedarwood oil's reputation as an aid for relaxation and rest.
Aromatic Profile: An Earthy and Comforting Embrace
The aroma of Cedarwood essential oil is unmistakably woody, warm, and sweet, with subtle balsamic and earthy undertones that evoke the feeling of a deep, ancient forest. Its fragrance is robust but not overwhelming, providing a solid and comforting base in any aromatic blend. It is an aroma that invites introspection and stillness.
This aromatic profile makes it an excellent choice for moments when you seek to create a personal atmosphere that promotes meditation, concentration, or simply a space of calm away from daily hustle and bustle. Its base note makes it persistent and capable of anchoring lighter, more volatile aromas, providing depth and a sense of grounding.

Great oil
Cedarwood is useful for a LOT of things so I decided to order it. I put this in my diffuser along with lavender when I'm going to bed and you can also massage some onto your forehead as well to help with sleep.
Smells just like you are smelling the tree or opening a Cedarwood jewelry box.
I love this one! I diffuse it every night with lavender and it knocks me out and keeps me out! I also found a secret use for this oil which is crazy! I add a couple drops to my dogs bath and the fleas jump right off into the water.
and this one came highly recommended to us by a friend
The cedarwood scent is VERY strong, but is ultimately pleasant - it has a very woodsy/rustic sort of smell to it. It sort of adds an instant feeling of homeyness to a room.
Quality essential oil

Great oil
I'm really new to the essential oil and diffusing scene but after doing research, I learned the Cedarwood is useful for a LOT of things so I decided to order it. Not to mention that doTERRA is an amazing brand with a great reputation, also the price was great as well. Cedarwood is not the best smelling oil but it mixes well. I put this in my diffuser along with lavender when I'm going to bed and you can also massage some onto your forehead as well to help with sleep. I told one of my friends who is a doTERRA Wellness Advocate that I ordered a doTERRA product from Amazon and she was concerned that it may not be authentic but as soon as this oil came in I brought it her and she was happy to say that it was authentic (for those of you who may be skeptical). The seller is amazing and the oil came in quickly, I will be ordering more doTERRA in the future.
Decent but not very fragrant
I like the super woody smell of the cedarwood and use it in my diffuser. The price is not as crazy as some other scents, yet. In a diffuser the smell is not as prominent as other scents which is a bit disappointing. Lasts a while because you just need a few drops.
