Description
Discovering doTERRA Copaiba Essential Oil
doTERRA Copaiba essential oil is sourced from the resin of copaiba trees thriving in the South American rainforests. This oil is valued for its unique aromatic profile and its many applications for personal wellness. Known for its resinous, sweet, and woody aroma, it creates a comforting atmosphere and helps establish a sense of tranquility. Its history of use dates back centuries in traditional Amazonian practices, where local communities have appreciated its natural qualities.
The extraction process for Copaiba resin is sustainable and environmentally friendly, ensuring the conservation of these valuable trees. Once collected, the resin undergoes steam distillation to obtain a high-purity essential oil. doTERRA is committed to maintaining the highest quality standards, resulting in an essential oil that faithfully captures the botanical properties of the plant.
Botanical Origin of Copaiba Oil
Copaiba oil comes from different species of the genus Copaifera, mainly Copaifera reticulata, Copaifera coriacea, Copaifera langsdorffii, and Copaifera officinalis. These trees, native to the Amazon rainforest in countries like Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela, are known for their longevity and the aromatic resin they produce. The harvesting of this resin is an ancestral practice passed down through generations, and doTERRA collaborates with local communities to ensure sustainable harvesting practices that protect the forest ecosystem.
The resin is extracted from the tree trunk through a process similar to that used for maple syrup, without harming the tree. This allows the tree to continue producing resin for many years. The authenticity of the botanical source is crucial for essential oil quality, and doTERRA conducts rigorous testing to verify the purity and botanical identity of each batch of Copaiba.
Main Chemical Composition
The chemical profile of Copaiba essential oil is remarkably rich and complex, dominated by sesquiterpenes, particularly beta-caryophyllene (BCP). This compound is the primary constituent and can represent a significant percentage of the oil, imbuing it with many of its intrinsic properties. Beta-caryophyllene is a dietary cannabinoid that selectively binds to CB2 receptors in the body's endocannabinoid system.
Aside from beta-caryophyllene, Copaiba oil also contains other sesquiterpenes such as alpha-humulene and trans-alpha-bergamotene, as well as a variety of diterpenes and resin acids. doTERRA's careful distillation aims to preserve this complex composition to ensure the oil offers a complete profile of its natural components.

The aroma of Copaiba essential oil is distinctive and versatile. It is described as a resinous, woody, and slightly sweet aroma, with earthy and spicy undertones. Frequently Asked Questions
What differentiates Copaiba from other resins or oils like Frankincense?
While both are essential oils obtained from tree resins and have a deep aroma, Copaiba is rich in beta-caryophyllene, whereas Frankincense primarily contains alpha-pinene. This difference in main chemical composition gives them distinct aromatic profiles and uses, although both are valued in aromatherapy for their comforting qualities.
Can Copaiba oil be used on children?
For use on children, a high dilution with a carrier oil is always recommended. It is advisable to consult with a pediatrician or a certified aromatherapy professional to determine the most appropriate dosage and application method for the child's age. A patch test should always be performed on a small area of the skin.
How can I know if my Copaiba oil is pure?
doTERRA adheres to CPTG (Certified Pure Tested Grade) purity standards, which involve rigorous third-party testing to ensure the absence of contaminants and the presence of desired chemical compounds in the correct proportions. You can verify the batch number on the Source to You website to access quality test results.
How often can I diffuse Copaiba?
Copaiba can be diffused several times a day, in 30 to 60-minute sessions, with breaks in between. It is important to observe how your environment responds and adjust according to your personal preferences and the size of the space. For constant use, you can opt for shorter, more frequent sessions.

Best and organic!
If you want to start a collection in essential oils, buy this one as well and have them all from aura cacia. They are all amazing quality, this one is even organic and you do not need to break the bank just to have prettier bottles. Also the small bottles are perfect to first test, as some of us end up not loving or using the oil that much in their collection so win win! Copaiba is not in my first top five oils but it is a staple. Decent scent and quality.
Natural Relief and Serenity
I adore Aura Cacia's organic copaiba essential oil. Its earthy scent is both soothing and grounding, perfect for relaxation. I've found it incredibly effective for easing cramping, especially during women's monthly cycles. The benefits extend beyond just pain relief; it blends seamlessly with other oils like Lavender, Peppermint, Clary Sage....for personalized aromatherapy. Thanks to its purity, a little goes a long way. Recommend it for anyone seeking natural relief and holistic well-being.
Oral support
I take this oil for lots of different reasons and uses, but in particular I like to add it to my mouthwash. It’s really good for the oral microbiome. This tree oil provides lots of benefits to the gums and teeth roots. It’s also nice to just take a drop orally before bed, it’s quite calming. I’d recommend adding it to your essential oil collection or medicine cabinet. It has lots of uses.
