Description
Young Living Chamomile Essential Oil: A Touch of Natural Calm
Young Living's Chamomile Essential Oil is a product cherished in the world of aromatherapy for its distinctive olfactory profile and qualities. Carefully extracted from the Chamaemelum nobile plant, this essence captures the herbaceous and delicate sweetness that characterizes chamomile, a flower revered since antiquity by various cultures.
Obtaining a high-quality essential oil is a meticulous process. Young Living adheres to rigorous standards, ensuring that every drop of Chamomile oil has the purity and potency inherent to the plant. This involves careful selection of raw materials, distillation methods that preserve the integrity of volatile components, and exhaustive testing to verify its composition.
Chamomile, with its modest appearance but rich composition, has been a pillar in herbal traditions throughout history. From the ancient Egyptians to European folk remedies, this plant has been used in various preparations to promote a sense of well-being and comfort. The essential oil condenses these qualities into a highly concentrated form, facilitating its incorporation into personal care routines and home environments.
Botanical Origin and Extraction Process
Young Living's Chamomile Essential Oil is derived from Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), a perennial plant native to Western Europe. This species is particularly valued for its white flowers with yellow centers, which are the source of its valuable aromatic components.
The extraction process for this essential oil is steam distillation. Freshly harvested flowers are subjected to steam, which carries away the volatile compounds from the plant. Subsequently, this steam is cooled, condensing into water and oil, which separate due to their difference in density. This method is preferred to preserve the complexity and delicacy of chamomile's aromatic profile, preventing the degradation of its heat-sensitive components.
The choice of Roman Chamomile over other varieties such as German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is due to distinctive differences in their chemical composition and, therefore, in their aromatic and sensory profile. Both are valuable, but Roman is particularly appreciated for its softer, sweeter, and slightly fruity aroma, making it ideal for applications where a sense of calm and comfort is sought.
Main Chemical Composition
The efficacy and distinctive character of Roman Chamomile Essential Oil are attributed to its complex chemical composition, dominated by a series of esters and monoterpenes.
- Esters: Esters like isobutyl angelate and isoamyl angelate are predominant. These compounds are known to contribute to the sweet, fruity, and herbaceous aroma of the oil, and are studied for their influence in promoting relaxation and overall well-being. Their presence is key to the calming properties associated with chamomile.
- Monoterpenes: Although in smaller proportion than in other chamomile species, certain monoterpenes are also part of its chemical structure, adding nuances to its aromatic profile and complementing the action of the esters.
The synergy of these components is what gives Roman Chamomile essential oil its particular aroma and distinctive properties. Young Living ensures, through chromatographic analysis, that the composition of each batch of oil is consistent and representative of its botanical origin and distillation method.
Aromatic Profile
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil is celebrated for its exquisite and nuanced aroma, which distinguishes it from other floral and herbaceous oils.
- Olfactory notes: Sweet, herbaceous, and slightly fruity notes predominate, with a subtle balsamic undertone. A gentle sweetness reminiscent of apples or freshly cut hay is perceived.
- Intensity: It has a medium aromatic intensity, which is noticeable without being overwhelming, making it ideal for diffusion and topical application where a delicate olfactory experience is desired.
- Persistence: Its aroma is persistent but soft, evolving delicately over time and leaving a trail of tranquility in the environment or on the skin.
- Sensation: It is commonly associated with feelings of calm, comfort, and serenity, making this oil a popular choice for moments of relaxation and meditation.
This aromatic profile makes it an ideal complement for blends intended to create peaceful environments, enhance nighttime routines, or simply add a touch of natural sweetness to any space.
Uses in Aromatherapy
In the realm of aromatherapy, Roman Chamomile Essential Oil is highly valued for its properties that contribute to emotional and physical well-being.
- Relaxing environments: Its aroma is often used to create a calm atmosphere, helping to reduce feelings of occasional stress and fostering a state of tranquility. It is ideal for diffusing at home after a busy day.
- Sleep routines: Many people find that its aroma can be a pleasant complement to a pre-sleep routine, helping to prepare the mind and body for restful sleep.
- Personal care: Diluted in a carrier oil, it can be applied topically for relaxing massages, especially on the abdomen or temples, offering a comforting sensation.
- Natural cosmetics: Due to its mild profile and properties, it is sometimes incorporated into skincare products, especially in formulations for sensitive or irritated skin, though always with proper dilution to prevent hypersensitivity in predisposed individuals.
- Children's well-being: Adequately diluted, its soft aroma makes it a considered option for creating a peaceful environment in children's rooms.
It is important to remember that the use of essential oils should be informed and always follow appropriate dilution and application recommendations.
How to Use
Young Living's Roman Chamomile Essential Oil can be used in various ways to harness its aromatic and topical properties:
- Diffusion: Add 3-5 drops to your essential oil diffuser to scent your home or workspace. It is ideal for creating a comforting atmosphere in bedrooms, living rooms, or even offices where stress reduction is sought.
- Topical application: For topical use, dilute 1 drop of Roman Chamomile essential oil with 4-5 drops of a vegetable carrier oil (such as Young Living V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex, fractionated coconut oil, or sweet almond oil). Apply the mixture to the temples, nape of the neck, wrists, pulse points, or directly to the skin of the abdomen for a gentle massage. Perform a patch test on a small area of the skin before general application to ensure tolerance.
- Aromatic bath: Disperse 5-10 drops in a tablespoon of Epsom salt or unscented bath gel and add to warm bath water for a relaxing bath.
- Direct inhalation: Place 1-2 drops in the palm of your hand, rub them gently, and inhale the aroma directly, or inhale from the bottle for quick relief from occasional stress.
Always follow dilution guidelines and the recommendations of a qualified professional, especially if you have sensitive skin or any medical condition.
Synergies
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil is an excellent aromatic companion, blending well with other essential oils to enhance their effects or create complex aromatic profiles:

- For skin care: Can be combined with Frankincense, Geranium, or Lavender in a carrier oil for formulations intended to nourish and comfort the skin.
- For a sweet and balsamic aroma: Pairs well with Vetiver or Cedarwood to create a deeper, more grounded base, ideal for meditation.
Experimenting with different combinations allows you to discover personalized blends that suit your olfactory preferences and specific needs.
Precautions
Although Young Living's Roman Chamomile Essential Oil is generally well-tolerated, it is important to follow certain precautions for safe and effective use:
- Dilution: Always dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil before topical application to minimize the risk of skin sensitivity, especially on sensitive skin or in children.
- Skin sensitivity: Perform a patch test on a small area of the skin, such as the inner forearm, before applying the oil to larger areas. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
- Internal use: This product is designed for aromatic and topical use. Avoid ingestion unless specifically labeled for internal use and under the supervision of a qualified professional.
- Pregnancy and lactation: If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any medical condition, consult a healthcare professional before using essential oils.
- Children: Keep out of reach of children. If used with children, ensure further dilution and apply with caution, preferably under the guidance of a specialist.

- Storage: Store the oil in a cool, dark, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to preserve its potency and freshness.
Responsible use of essential oils contributes to a positive and beneficial experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Roman Chamomile and German Chamomile?
Although both are chamomiles with valuable properties, Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) is distinguished by its sweeter, fruiter, and herbaceous aroma, being rich in esters. German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) has a deeper aroma and is characterized by its chamazulene content, which gives the oil a bluish color and other properties. Roman is often preferred for everyday relaxation.
Can Roman Chamomile oil be used directly on the skin?
Although Roman Chamomile is a relatively mild oil, it is highly recommended to always dilute it with a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond, or jojoba) before applying it directly to the skin. This minimizes the risk of skin sensitivity and improves essential oil absorption.
Is it safe to diffuse Roman Chamomile in rooms with children?
Yes, diffused Roman Chamomile essential oil is a popular option for creating a calming atmosphere in children's rooms. However, it should always be used in a diffuser for a limited period, in a well-ventilated area, and in smaller quantities if young children are present. Consult safe use guidelines for children or a professional.
What other oils does Roman Chamomile combine well with?
Roman Chamomile blends harmoniously with a wide variety of oils. For relaxation, it complements Lavender, Bergamot, Sandalwood, or Cedarwood well. To add a touch of freshness, it can be blended with citrus oils such as Orange or Lemon.

Wal-Mart announced this like a the actual aceite esenciales.
Look for yourself but actually it's a book.
