Description
Botanical Origin
Young Living's Myrrh Essential Oil is obtained from the resin of the Commiphora myrrha tree, a plant of the Burseraceae family, native to the arid regions of the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. This oil has been known since ancient times, being a valuable component in religious, medicinal, and cosmetic practices across various cultures. Steam distillation of the resin produces an oil with a complex and profound aroma, appreciated for its multiple applications.
Main Chemical Composition
The aromatic complexity and properties of myrrh essential oil are due to its rich and varied chemical composition. Among its main components are:
- Furanosesquiterpenes: such as curzerene and lindestrene, which contribute to its characteristic aroma and are associated with properties that support emotional well-being.
- Sesquiterpenes: including elemene and germacrene, which may influence its calming and balancing effects.
- Furanodienes: compounds being studied for their potential to influence the body's stress response.
These compounds, among others, act synergistically to offer the profile of benefits that myrrh holds.
Aromatic Profile
Myrrh essential oil possesses an aroma that evokes a deep connection with the earth and spirituality. It is a warm, smoky, balsamic, and slightly sweet aroma, with spicy and medicinal notes. Its penetrating and rich fragrance is ideal for creating an atmosphere of calm and contemplation, making it a favorite for meditation and deep relaxation practices.
Uses in Aromatherapy
In aromatherapy, Myrrh essential oil is valued for its ability to foster a sense of peace and spiritual upliftment. Some of its key uses include:
- Emotional and Spiritual Support: Used for meditation, prayer, and to help create an environment conducive to self-awareness and tranquility.
- Skin Care: Traditionally, it has been integrated into beauty routines for its possible effects on the appearance of radiant and rejuvenated-looking skin. It can be added to creams, lotions, and serums for the face and body.
- General Well-being: Its warm and enveloping aroma can be used to establish a relaxing atmosphere after a busy day.
How to Use
The versatility of Myrrh essential oil allows for various ways of use to leverage its attributes:
- Diffusion: Add 5-8 drops to your ESSENIQ diffuser to purify the air and create a serene atmosphere, ideal for meditation, yoga, or simply to relax.
- Topical Application: Dilute 1-2 drops with a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil) and apply to the skin on wrists, temples, nape of the neck, or soles of the feet. This can be useful for a relaxing massage or for skin care. Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin before general application.
- Direct Inhalation: For a more immediate effect, you can place 1-2 drops in the palm of your hand, rub, and then deeply inhale the aroma directly.
- In the Bath: Add a few drops, previously diluted in a dispersing base like Epsom salts or a neutral shower gel, to warm bath water for a relaxing and aromatic experience.
Synergies
Myrrh blends well with other essential oils, creating complex aromatic mixtures with enhanced wellness profiles:
- With Frankincense and Sandalwood: Enhances meditation and spiritual connection properties, creating a deeply calming atmosphere.
- With Orange and Lavender: For a blend that balances calm with an uplifting and fresh touch, ideal for mood balancing.
- With Floral Oils (such as Rose or Jasmine): For skin care treatments, providing a luxurious dimension and nourishing dry skin.
Precautions
Although Myrrh is generally safe for aromatic and diluted topical use, it is important to follow these recommendations:
- Always perform a skin patch test before topical application to rule out sensitivities.
- Avoid direct contact with eyes and mucous membranes. In case of accidental contact, rinse with plenty of vegetable oil (not water).
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under medical treatment, consult a healthcare professional before using this oil.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Store in a cool, dark place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight to preserve its potency.
- Ingestion of this oil is not recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
What differentiates Young Living Myrrh oil from others?
Young Living's Myrrh essential oil is distinguished by its commitment to the Seed to Seal® quality, which guarantees a pure product from planting the seed to sealing the bottle, free of adulterants or harmful chemicals, ensuring maximum potency and effectiveness.
Is it safe to use myrrh on sensitive skin?
For sensitive skin, it is essential to dilute Myrrh essential oil with a carrier oil in a higher ratio (for example, 1 drop of myrrh per 10-15 drops of carrier oil) and perform a patch test on a small area before applying it more generally. Caution is always recommended.
Can Myrrh essential oil be ingested?
Young Living essential oils are marketed primarily for aromatic and topical use. Although some oils have a Plus line for supplements, myrrh oil is not labeled for internal consumption in Spain by Young Living and, therefore, it is recommended to avoid its ingestion without the supervision of a qualified professional.
Why is myrrh oil so popular in meditation?
Myrrh has been used for millennia in spiritual and meditative rituals due to its deep, earthy, and balsamic aroma, which is associated with purification, spiritual connection, and tranquility. Its fragrance helps center the mind and create an environment conducive to introspection.

Myrrhtastic!!!
Great scent, easy to use.
great quality
good value for money
Unpleasant smell
The scent is not what I expected. This is the second brand of myrrh essential oil I've bought, and compared to the first, this was totally different. It seems to me quite nasty—sickly sweet and perhaps artificial. I can't comment on any other aspects of this oil, such as medicinal uses. It is indeed thin (of low viscosity) as it is supposed to be. Because of the bad smell, it is—for me—unusable. But this is obviously subjective. The other brand I used previously (which I will be returning to) was Abbey Essentials, although this is a very thick oil it should be noted.
Perfect service
I have bought it for my friend and have sent it to another country. She is really happy with it. The seller costumer service and their support is GREAT. Thanks to them 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Lo que se esperaba
Sin Probar no se puede opinar.
Quality seems good at a very reasonable price.
I use this product in my own creams. This is the first time I have used the thin form of the oil. It smells ok and is certainly easier to use. Time will tell if I like it as much as the original pure, viscous oil.
